Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV
What can become new again?
I recently bought a certified pre-owned car and although the car was new to me it was not a new car. I replaced the bumper and although the bumper was new, it still didn’t make the car new. Carnally thinking, absolutely nothing on earth can become new again but spiritually thinking allows us to examine this bold declaration we see in Scripture that if we are [positioned] in Christ, by faith, we can be new.
How wonderful to know that the work of the Cross allows us to be renewed. While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us and in doing that unselfish act, He promoted us to a distinction unlike no other. We are new!
To be renewed is to know that we are forgiven, and not entangled in the guilt and shame of our past. The chains of our sins are broken, and Christ instructs us to move in the freeing forgiveness of His sacrifice.
To be renewed is to have our identity aligned with how He sees us, and God sees us as healthy and whole. He sees us as the head and not the tail. He sees us living above and never beneath. He sees us as the lender and not the borrower.
To be renewed is to live in the fullness of each new day never lingering on the faults or failures of the previous days. How beautiful it is to rest in the promises and the blessings of our renewal that came through the finished work of the cross.
To be renewed does not mean we are mended, reconditioned or put back together again; we have a brand-new identity, purified by His blood.
To be renewed is to have our identity in Jesus.
